A step by step guide to start using Link-ages with your family

What do I need?

There are 2 apps in the Link-ages Family and both are available on Apple and Android devices

Link-ages Go is the app for smartphones and is used by family members who are more familiar with technology and digital messaging. The Link-ages Go app can be used to create family groups called Bubbles, invite family members and manage your subscription.

Link-ages Hub is the app designed for users less experienced with technology and is optimised for tablet devices. The interface makes the most of the larger screen of a tablet to provide an easy to use interface with large buttons and clear text.

How to Find and Install Apps

Download and install Link-ages and Link-ages Hub in three easy steps

For Apple Devices

Step 1

Open the App Store on the device's Home screen by tapping on the icon

Step 2

Start searching for the Link-ages Apps by tapping on the Search icon.

Step 3

Search for Link-ages Go (for iPhones) or Link-ages Hub (for iPad) by tapping on the Search box (a) and typing "Link-ages" using the on-screen keyboard. The search results will appear below.

Either tap the Link-ages logo (b) for more information or tap ‘Get’ (c) and wait for the app to be downloaded and installed.

Step 4

If you tapped the Link-ages Logo for more information, now tap 'Get' and wait for the app to be downloaded.

When the App has downloaded it will appear on your device's Home screen. Tap its icon to start using it.

For Android Devices

Step 1

Open the Google Play Store App by tapping on its icon

Step 2

Search for ‘Link-ages’ Go (for smartphones) or ‘Link-ages Hub’ (for tablet devices) by tapping in the Search box and using the on-screen keyboard.

Step 3

The search results will be displayed.

Either tap the Link-ages logo for more information (a), or tap ‘Install’ (b) and wait for the app to be downloaded and installed.

Step 4

If you tapped the Link-ages Logo for more information, now tap 'Install' and wait for the app to be downloaded.

When the App has downloaded it will appear on your device's Home screen. Tap its icon to start using it.

How to get started with Link-ages Go

Create an account and start inviting family members

Getting started with Link-ages Go is the same on both Apple and Android devices

Step 1

When the app is opened for the first time there will be the option to either Log in (a) if you already have a Link-ages account, or to Sign up and create an account.  

If you are a new user, create an account by tapping on 'Sign up' (b).

Step 2

To keep groups private, no one can join a group without an invitation from its creator. Link-ages refers to these groups as Bubbles.

To create a new Bubble, tap the '+' at the lower right corner of the screen (a).

Tapping on 'Edit' (b) allows the administrator to change the name and profile picture of an existing Bubble, or delete the Bubble if it is no longer required

Step 3

After you have created an account (if you are not already part of a Bubble) you will be prompted to either:

- Create a New Bubble (b) for which you, as the creator, will then be the administrator, or

- Provide your unique PIN (a) and email address to the administrator of the Bubble you wish to join.

Step 4

If you are creating a new Bubble, you can choose either:

Link-ages Lite, free to use and allows text and photo messaging for up to 4 users (a).  

Link-ages Plus, includes video calling and allows unlimited users (b).

Step 5


Once the Bubble is created it needs a name (a) and a picture (b).

You may choose a picture from your device's gallery by tapping 'Upload', or take a new picture by tapping 'Camera'

Step 6

Family and friends can be invited to the Bubble by entering their email address.

If the person you are inviting has already created an account with Link-ages using the email address you have entered, you will be prompted to enter their PIN.

If they have not already provided you with this, please request it from them.

Step 7

After members accept an invitation, they will appear as contacts within Link-ages and can send and receive messages (a).

Tapping on the profile picture (b) will open the user's profile where information such as the user's PIN can be found.

New users may be invited to the Bubble by tapping on the '+' (c). The Bubble may be edited by tapping on 'edit' (d).

How to get started with Link-ages Hub

Create an account and connect with your family

Getting started with Link-ages Hub is the same on both iPads and Android Tablet Devices

Step 1

After Link-ages Hub has been downloaded from either the App Store (Apple devices) or the Google Play Store (Android devices), its icon will appear on the Home Screen.

Open the Link-ages Hub app by tapping on its icon

Step 2

When Link-ages Hub is opened for the first time, tap on either:

- Get Started (a) if you are a new user and want to create a Link-ages account
or
- Log in (b) if you have already created an account or had one created for you.

Step 3

If you tapped on 'Log in' and you are using Link-ages for the first time, you will be asked to confirm if your account was set up by you or by someone else on your behalf.

If someone else has set up an account for you, we recommend that you change your password in order to keep your account secure.

Step 4

If you are a new user, tap ‘Get Started’ and you will be asked to enter your first name (a), last name (b) and email address (c).

All Link-ages users need their own email address to create an account. If you do not have one and are not sure how to set up an email account, we suggest asking a family member for help.

Step 5


The next screen will ask you to choose a password and confirm your choice.

You will not need your password every time you use Link-ages, but you may need it in the future. Try to make it something memorable but hard to guess.

Tap ‘Next’ to continue.

Step 6

Next, Link-ages Hub will ask you to select the picture other people in your Bubble will see when they message you.  

You can either take a new photo using your tablet's built in camera (a), or select a  photo from your device (b).

Step 7

To be able to message and share with your family you will need to provide your email address and unique PIN to the administrator of your family’s Bubble.

Link-ages creates a unique PIN for all users as another way of ensuring only people you know are in your Bubble.

Step 8

When the administrator has added your profile to the Bubble you will be able to see the other members of the group (a) and send and receive messages.

You will also see any photo added to the Gallery (b) and any upcoming diary events (c).

You can access your profile and PIN by tapping on your picture (d).

Sending a Message in Link-ages Hub

Sending text and photo messages in Link-ages Hub is the same on both iPads and Android Tablet Devices

Step 1

To send a text message to one of your contacts, first tap on the ‘Contacts’ section of the Link-ages Hub main page.

Step 2

Select the person would wish to send the message to by tapping on their picture.

In this example, we will send a message to Lester Smith

Step 3

Tap on 'Messages' to start writing your message,

From this screen you can also send and receive voice messages, see what photo and video have been shared or start a video call.

Step 4

Tap on 'Write a message or add a photo' to start writing your message.

This will open the on-screen keyboard to allow you to type your message.

Step 5

If you wish to send a photo with your message, you may add one by tapping ‘Select a photo’.

This will allow you to browse the photos stored on your device and select the one you want to send.

Step 6

When your message is ready to send, tap ‘Send a message’.

The person you have messaged will receive a notification on their device that you have sent them a new message.

Start a Video Call in Link-ages Hub

Video calling in Link-ages Hub is the same on both iPads and Android Tablet Devices

Step 1

To start a video call with one of your contacts, first tap on the ‘Contacts’ section of the Link-ages Hub main page

Step 2

Select the person you wish to video call by tapping on their picture.

Step 3

Tap on ‘Two-way video chat’ to make the call.  

The person’s device you are calling will notify them that you are calling.

Step 4

On most tablet devices, the camera is located on one of the shorter sides of the screen (on iPads, the camera is on the opposite side to the round button).

Try to hold the device so that you are not covering the camera.

Step 5

When the person you are calling answers, video will appear in the centre of the screen after a couple of seconds.

You can see how the person you are calling sees you in a preview window during the call.

Step 6

If you cannot hear the person you are calling, increase the volume using the volume controls on the side of the device.

Step 7

At the end of the call, tap the red phone button to end the call.
